THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY
The following excerpt is from the self help
psychology book, Be Your Own Therapist.
To change the world out there, we need first to change our own
actions in our own groups. To effectively change our own groups
we need to think more globally. How does my group appear to
outsiders? (If your group regularly offends the 80% of white
males friendly to your cause, is that productive for your group
today?) As individuals our local actions need to include
stopping our going-along with "the way we did it last time" and
our blaming-of-others game.
|
Hatred and anger can be exorcised and left behind, if felt and expressed as suggested in this book. Avoiding them forever, leads to forever stress. |
We need to voice our opinions to
tone down the rabid radicals within our groups. This will not be
easy. But it is worthwhile for two reasons: (1)our self-esteem
will be heightened and (2)our group's effectiveness will be
improved.
Sometimes our busyness with our special group(s) can obscure
the truth that we are all citizens of the world.
