REDUCING/RESOLVING STRESS = THERAPY RESULT

The following excerpt is from the self help
psychology book, Be Your Own Therapist.

There are many tools available for reducing or resolving stress. They cover the entire range of available therapies. Therapeutic methods of resolving and reducing stresses are discussed throughout this book: physically oriented methods in Chapters 5-7, how to change your thinking in Chapter 8, methods of emotional change in Chapters 9 & 10, and ways of changing spiritual beliefs in Chapter 11.

The four prisoners of trauma are words, emotions, sensations and thoughts.

Therapy is defined (Oxford, 1980, s.v. "therapy.") as "any treatment designed to relieve or cure an illness or disability." Symptoms of disability include bodily dysfunctions, emotional dysfunctions, thinking difficulties, spiritual belief difficulties, communication problems and undesirable behavior (all important therapy "stuff" discussed in the next few chapters). Because we are integrated beings, our dysfunctions are all interconnected. Therefore, the particular focus of our chosen therapy is often not that important. Changing our thinking changes our emotions and vice versa. Similarly, freeing our body can free our communications or result in behavior change. The old idea that the kneebone is connected to the thighbone, which is connected to the hipbone, has strong parallels in terms of psychological disability. If one area of dysfunction changes, all areas are affected.**
