LEMON THERAPISTS
The following excerpt is from the self help
psychology book, Be Your Own Therapist.
Yes, they exist, as do lemons in every other occupation.
Fortunately there is usually much regulation that weeds out
incompetents, reducing their numbers to a small percentage.
Nevertheless, there are therapists who display various types of
lemon behavior. Lemon behavior might include:
(1)Sex with clients. Report these therapists to your state
board; they are likely to lose their licenses if the charges are
bonafide. (2)Taking on clients who are known to fall outside
areas of expertise. Fortunately, this is a highly emphasized
area of therapist ethical training. (3)Not encouraging
termination of therapy when goals are reached or therapy has
become ineffective. Therapist ego is in the way.
